we watched a movie in philosophy yesterday, and something said in the movie stuck with me. it is not reason that should guide us. reason is just as flawed as the faith people put in religion. people preceding us believed it was reasonable to kick Native Americans out of their land. they believed it was reasonable to kill of Jewish people. they believed it was reasonable to alienate African Americans. they believed it was reasonable that men be put higher than women. but really, where is the reason in any of that? you do not need reason to do good things. you just have to have faith. not necessarily in a higher being, but in something. faith that maybe you will do good and make a difference. faith in the human race. people think it’s reasonable for homosexuals not to get married…but years from now, that will be added to the list of unreasonable things as well.
